We notice what we're looking for
We notice what we're looking for.
That mindset shift changed everything for me.
If we're looking for evidence that the universe is working against us – we'll find it. We'll be annoyed by everything and notice countless ways we (and others in our lives) are falling short.
High achievers have this challenge on overdrive – we notice all of the ways we could do better, be more productive, move faster.
But focusing on what's not working means we miss all of the things that *are* going well, which can be a huge motivator to keep going.
This is the fundamental premise of a strengths approach – figure out what you're really good at and do more of it. Find ways to harness that superpower to hit your goals. It puts the ball back in your court and allows you to make big leaps by reducing the friction of energy-draining work.
Has this shift shown up in your life? How have you gained momentum by focusing on what's going well?
